WEBINAR: Change. Survive. Thrive.

In the Change Challenge presentation below, Flinders University share their multi-year change and self-disrupting journey. Watch to see how they aligned strategy, structure and staff to achieve large-scale change. Senior leaders Mark and Taicea reflect on what they’ve learned about resilience and agility in moving forward to meet the world of continuous change.

Challenging change

Vice-President Corporate Services and Chief Operating Officer Mark Gregory describes a very challenging period of restructure and modernisation for the university, with many learnings and adjustments along the way: “It can be done – acceptance, willpower and leadership cohesion are needed.”

In rising to the challenge and implementing change effectively, the university achieved a major transformation over a few years as it adopted a flatter and more streamlined structure.  The change also gave the University an opportunity to make significant investments in technology and process improvement.

Through their change, Flinders University was able to rise 91 places in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, improve their bottom-line financial performance, and grow research income by 42%: “Our costs went down, our income went up - we’ve had better year end results every year since we made the change,” Mark said.

“The interesting thing is, along with all the improvements in business metrics, we also had staff satisfaction results go up after this change process.”

Flinders University worked with Voice Project to administer a ‘Your Voice’ employee engagement survey, which measured staff satisfaction with a range of workplace practices: “Almost every result in the entire Your Voice 2020 staff survey improved, when compared to the results of the 2018 Your Voice survey,” Mark said.

Voice Project provides research-backed surveys that measure employee engagement, leadership capability and customer satisfaction. These state-of-the-art surveys help organisations get the best feedback to drive positive change. Voice Project works with organisations across the not-for profit, private and public sectors.
